GMMC serves adults age 18 and older throughout Georgia, so you do not need to live near Stockbridge or Atlanta to book an initial certification or renewal assessment.

Georgia residency, a qualifying condition, and a physician assessment are required for certification, and understanding those steps matters if you want to legally participate in Georgia’s medical cannabis program without guessing about consultation requirements, state registry steps, or card-related fees. GMMC does not offer pediatric consultations.

How much is the consultation?

The physician evaluation is $100 for a private 15-minute phone consultation with a Georgia-licensed physician. State card fees and cannabis purchases are separate, and health insurance does not cover the state card fee. View the full pricing breakdown.

How do I book, and what happens next?

When and how do I pay?

The $100 consultation fee is collected through eVisit after the telemedicine visit. Calendly is used for booking. The state card fee is paid separately through Georgia DPH after physician certification and state verification.

What if I do not qualify?

If our physician determines that you do not qualify for medical cannabis certification, we refund any consultation fee you paid. This is a consultation service, with no merchandise to return or replace. Read our consultation refund policy.

Does booking or paying guarantee approval?

No. A Georgia-licensed physician reviews your medical history, current condition, and available supporting information to decide whether certification is medically appropriate. Georgia DPH separately verifies the registry submission and issues the state card.

What are the qualifying conditions?

Georgia's current patient guidance lists qualifying medical conditions, with some requiring a certain stage, severity, diagnosis, age, or trauma history. Review the official DPH patient guidance. Autism spectrum disorder may qualify, but patients under 18 must have severe autism. Multiple sclerosis appears on the current qualifying-condition list. Post-traumatic stress disorder qualifies only for patients age 18 and older and involves direct exposure to or witnessing trauma. Seizure disorders related to epilepsy or trauma related head injuries are also listed qualifying cases. A listed diagnosis does not guarantee certification. Find your condition and review the current criteria. When a minor qualifies, a parent or legal guardian must apply for the medical cannabis card on the minor's behalf. Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, is also a qualifying condition under current guidance. Intractable pain is also listed as a qualifying condition. Sickle cell disease is a qualifying condition as well. Alzheimer's disease is also listed as a qualifying condition. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is another qualifying condition. Skin cancer generally does not qualify, but metastatic skin cancer may qualify under the cancer-related criteria.

Do I need medical records?

The physician may request available medical records, diagnosis information, diagnostic reports, or a current treatment list. The exact information needed varies. Ask our team for the appropriate secure submission process. Do not send medical records or patient identifiers through public website chat.

How do I get the physical Georgia medical cannabis card?

If certification is appropriate, fully licensed physicians whose principal practice location is in Georgia complete the required certification, upload the necessary information to the Medical Cannabis Patient Registry, and may certify and manage patients with qualifying conditions; this physician certification is the legal route for eligible patients to access medical cannabis under Georgia’s program. The Georgia Department of Public Health verifies the submission, requests additional information if needed, and sends payment instructions. Applicants may also need to show Georgia residency, and if their ID does not list a current Georgia address, supporting records can include a utility bill, phone bill, or pay stub with the applicant’s full name and street address. This public health agency issues the card after the applicable payment process. The card is the document patients use to legally access medical cannabis in Georgia. A valid card is required to possess medical cannabis under Georgia law. A patient in a health care institution may also need the institution to allow possession and use on its premises. Are state fees included in the $100 price?

No. Georgia DPH currently charges $30 per patient or caregiver card, with an additional $3.75 online payment service fee. For one certified patient receiving one card and paying online, the combined GMMC consultation and state costs are $133.75, paid separately to GMMC and the state. Cannabis products are not included.

How long does state card delivery take?

Georgia DPH advises allowing up to 10 business days after state payment processing. That estimate does not include appointment scheduling, physician assessment, or registry verification. The state ships through UPS, and a signature is required. If you do not have a secure home address or use a P.O. Box, the card may be sent to the health department location nearest your residence for pickup. Follow DPH instructions for pickup when applicable.

Do I renew every year or every five years?

Both timelines matter. Annual physician certification is generally required, but Georgia law exempts patients with incurable or irreversible conditions. Confirm your requirements with your certifying physician or Georgia DPH. The physical Georgia Medical Cannabis card is valid for five years. Annual certification does not automatically produce a new physical card or require a $30 state card fee every year. Review annual certification and card renewal.

Can an eligible caregiver receive a card?

The state may issue a separate caregiver card through the applicable registry process to a parent, guardian, or legal custodian when allowed. A caregiver card can cover helping with possessing, purchasing, or administering medical cannabis for the patient under state rules. Each issued card has its own state fee. Are existing Low THC Oil Registry Cards still valid?

Georgia DPH states that under Georgia’s updated medical cannabis program, an unexpired Low THC Oil Registry Card remains valid until its expiration date. Replacement or newly issued cards may use the newer program name instead of the former Low THC Oil Registry wording. Annual physician certification, when required, is separate; Georgia law exempts patients with incurable or irreversible conditions. Confirm whether the exception applies to you with your physician or Georgia DPH.

Use the Georgia DPH patient and caregiver page from the Georgia Department of Public Health, which administers Georgia's medical cannabis program through the Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. It is also the official source for current qualifying conditions, application steps, fees, and card status. The Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission provides information about authorized sellers and medical cannabis products sold under Georgia’s medical cannabis program.

For medical cannabis in Georgia, marijuana legal access is limited to registered patients in Georgia's medical cannabis program who may obtain state-licensed medical cannabis, while recreational marijuana remains illegal under state and federal law.

Those patients may legally possess products only within Georgia possession limits, up to 12,000 milligrams of THC total. The separate product limit is 1,200 milligrams of THC per package. See the official GMCC FAQs for current requirements.

They may purchase medical cannabis from authorized sellers, but patients may not grow their own cannabis plants, and Georgia law prohibits home cultivation and smoking raw cannabis flower. Out-of-state medical marijuana cards have limited recognition in Georgia, and a Georgia card does not override workplace drug-testing policies.
